I worked in the music, broadcast, and recording world in a variety of roles for fifteen years....specializing in jazz, and blues artists. I reviewed music for Downbeat magazine from 1981-91. Today I am a visual artist and university faculty member.

A great work of music that, I think, moved the 90's avant-garde into using a sharper focus on the arrangement of songs- their inner segments that Henry Threadgill then added different and interesting tonal sonorities.
Sometimes the tunes sound like an old Henry Mancini soundtrack to a tv detective show, other times there are quiet meditative sections. The three lp's that Threadgill made on Columbia Records (and this is one of them) IMHO are the clearest examples of his myriad talents.
Beautifully recorded and mixed. Great band, and co-produced by Bill Laswell. Total winner.
A recording that hasn't aged & sounds just right today.

Exceptional Joe Henderson/Kenny Dorham neo-hard bop date on BN. Great compositions with the added bonus of a first class rhythm section including a very young Andrew Hill on piano.
