Enjoyable movie about family devotion. The story is about a close knit family--a single mother and her two children in East Berlin. The time is 1989. The mother is a devoted Socialist who has raised her children after her husband has deserted the family for a life outside Communism. The mother witnesses a protest and sees her son among the demonstrators. She has a heart attack and is in a coma for eight months. During the eight months, the Berlin Wall has fallen and life has completely changed for residents inside the former Iron Curtain. When she awakens, the doctors warn the family not to stress her already delicate condition.The family, especially the son, strains to duplicate life as the mother knew it before she had her heart attack. The effort leads to many comical as well as tender and touching moments. Worthwhile watching. Very sharp wit as well as a good understanding of human nature.
