The Women... a must-read book.
Although I have read a slew of WWII fiction, this is the first Vietnam war era one. I love the author having just finished reading The Nightengale. In my opinion, The Women is even better. Having been in college at the time, I lived through (state-side, of course) student protests, Kent State, the National Guard protecting colleges and universities, which would eventually shut down, hoping fellow classmates, my cousin, and/or my favorite uncle would return home safely.
It discusses life as an OR nurse in a short staffed field hospital dealing with the life and death of young soldiers, the fatigue, loneliness and ultimate relationships formed.
For me, this is a must read book!
