Columbo: The Complete Series

"Columbo is as entertaing as we had remembered."

To say that we old folks are stuck in the past is somewhat misleading. The "past" isn't something we are stuck in; its something we remember fondly and long for. Now in our seventies, my wife and I find ourselves uninspired by the type of tv drama available these days. Not only do we get lost in current crime drama, but we can find no reason why anyone above the age of 12 would watch a show about a comic book character. So, here we have "Columbo" available on Ebay. We jumped at the chance to watch all of the episodes that we loved when we were first married. It had always been a favorite of ours, and now we are reliving it, one episode at a time. Peter Falk's award winning portrayal of a bungling, yet savvy police lieutenant is truly one of the best performances you could hope for. After just a few minutes watching him you will admire his technique, and you will be in awe of his character development as you watch more episodes. The Columbo series was artfully crafted to keep the viewer on the edge of his or her collective seat, as perfect murder after perfect murder is carefully and systematically solved by one of the best tv characters in the history of television. You won't be disappointed.

Race of the Century: The Heroic True Story of the 1908 New York to Paris...

It was a race to the end of the book, as I couldn't put it down!

Like others, I was unaware of the New York to Paris race in 1908, and thought it was some sort of fantasy or science fiction work. But no, this was a real race made by real people when the automobile was in its early years. Well written and researched by a knowledgeable writer, this work is indeed worth the time, and a very interesting read. Wonderful photographs from the actual race help the reader understand just what a monumental task this was, considering the lack of decent roadways, and in some places no roadways at all, decent or not. This book fulfilled my quest, which is finding interesting stories that are both entertaining and thought provoking. I give it an A+.
