Lightweight with great features
OK, so the title is a bit random. Never mind. I bought a Smiths 12V temperature gauge. It was a little rusty, and there was no bulb or bulb holder, but I didn't want those. I wanted a gauge that was upside down compared to most, e.g. one where the needle moves anti-clockwise as the temperature rises.
Also, I wasn't bothered about the rust, either, because the first thing I did was tear it apart and throw most of it away. I just wanted the mechanism, to convert a 1941 mechanical gauge to an electric one, so I could use the original instrument cluster on a car I'm restoring.
I had to paint the needle red. Other than that, perfect!

Excellent piece of kit
Very solidly made tail tidy, with quality fasteners and accessories. The factory indicators fit into a plastic part, but on this tail tidy they go into a metal bracket, and getting them in is a wrestle, but once in they are very firmly fixed - more so than the factory tail unit.
The only issue I had is that the number plate light fixes square to the tail unit, and that means that the LEDs are visible (and very bright) from behind the bike. I made a simple add-on shroud on a 3D printer that finishes the thing off a treat.
I also added a bracket under the license plate to hold a wider rear reflector, but that was just personal preference.
Overall, this unit really makes a huge difference to the back end of the bike.

It's a seat
What do you expect? Delivery was super quick, given where it came from, exactly as described and seems well put together. It might have been nice if the mounting hardware fitted (the washers are too big to fit inside the front mount), but it's not exactly the end of the world as I have a big box of washers to hand.
More to the point, as this is a 'make it up as I go along' custom build, the mounting position, spacing and angles are just perfect for what I need, so I'm well happy!
