Transformative Art History
Simon Shama's "The Power of Art" is simply the best discussion of, and introduction to, European Art that you will find. He places all of the art he looks at in its historical and biographical context and then adds his own penetrating and highly dramatic insights. I am not an "art lover" type but Simon Shama's presentation is an emotional roller coaster - when you sit down to watch, fasten your seat belt and be prepared to be shocked, amazed and have your views of art transformed forever.
