2 von 2 finden das hilfreich Brilliant film starring some of the classic actors of the 196os -Charlton Heston, Lawrence Olivier. The story is one of determination by one man in the face of insurmountable odds. Set in the Sudan in 1884-85 this is the true story of General Gordons attempt to hold Khartoum against the insurgent Mahdist tribesman. The dilatorial British Government is loathed to help and Gordon decides to make the Sudan an international incident. After a number of small encounters the siege begins, the British Government is forced into action - too late to save Gordon. The General dies at the hands of his enemies in that most Victorian of ways by facing the enemy and dying like a man. British troops arrive not long after to a scene of ruin. The Mahdi dies within a few months after his greatest victory.
A must for those into British Colonial war films or those into classic titles of the 1960s - this rates alongside Zulu, Lawrence of Arabia and The Battle of Britain.

THE HARD HEADED RUTHLESS MERCHANT BANKER - RUSSELL CROWE GOES THROUGH AN UNEXPECTED CHANGE IN ATTITUDE REGARDING HOW AND WHERE HIS LIFE IS GOING.SET IN PROVENCE THIS CLASSIC FILM LIVES AND BREATHES FRENCH CULTURE, FROM THE VINYARDS TO THE QUAINT LITTLE TOWNS.THE JOURNEY FOR CROWE'S CHARACTER TAKES AND JOLT WHEN HIS FAVOURITE UNCLE DIES - WHO HE HAS NOT SPOKEN TO FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. LET THE BATTLE OF NATIONS BEGIN. ANYBODY WHO HAS TRAVELLED AROUND FRANCE WILL LOVE THIS FILM. ANY ONE WHO LOVES A GOOD OLD FASHIONED STORY OF LOVE AND ROMANCE AGAIN WILL LIKE THIS FILM. IF YOU WANT DEATH AND MUTILATION THEN STAY AWAY AS THIS FILM IS FAR TOO INTELLECTUAL AND WELL CRAFTED FOR THE RAMBOS OF THIS WORLD.
GET A BOTTLE OF RED WINE AND SIT BACK AND ENJOY A POIGNANT FILM THAT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD FOR DAYS AFTERWARDS. CROWE IS KNOWN FOR HIS HARDMAN ROLES BUT THIS ONE SURPRISED ME AS IT SHOWS THE DEPTH OF HIS ACTING ABILITY. HIS SUPPORTING CAST IS SUPERB INCLUDING OSCAR WINNER MARION COTLLARD AS CROWES VERY BEAUTIFUL AND VERY SEDUCTIVE LOVE INTEREST. WATCH OUT FOR ABBIE CORNISH'S BUM - VERY NICE!!!
