Good account of little-known WWII tragedy
Detailed account of the hopeless defense of New Britain Island by a handful of Australian solders in early 1942.
I gave it only four stars out of five because the numerous accounts of small parties of men feeing through the unforgiving island jungle tended to all blur together after a while.
Overall, definitely worth reading for anyone interested in the grim realities of WWII in the Pacific.

Excellent in person account.
Not just air combat.
It’s a compelling account of all that was involved in trying to keep the badly outnumbered Luftwaffe up and running in Sicily in the summer of 1943.
Not only pilots, but ground crewmen and others involved, are mentioned by name and described.
This book gives a very human face to the War.
