Yusuf is Still Cat Stevens
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I'd seen Yusef Islam's (Cat Stevens) vids on youtube and I was intrigued. I'd never been a hard core fan of his work in the '70s but I always liked him. What a pleasant surprise this CD was to me. I'm not Muslim, but I wanted to know how his years within Islam hds affected him. He projects a really wonderful spirit on this album and the songs are as good as anything he did back in the '70s. The originals here are the best. He does the old Animals hit Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and while it fits the album, his own songs are more penetrating. Maybe There's A World; One Day At A Time; I Think I See The Light; and The Beloved hit me right away, but the others continue to grow on me. I've purchased a 2nd CD of his and intend to get the others he's made since coming back to making music. Fine, fine stuff. Highly recommended.

Vince Gill - These Days - 2007's Best Release, so far
5 von 5 finden das hilfreich Given all the country "artists" today who are more proficient at high fashion posing than they'll ever be at creating anything musically meaningful, this 4 CD set is manna from heaven for those of us who love and miss REAL country music. It's all here, too: honky tonk, bluegrass, tough rockin' country, heartbreaking ballads, southern sacred and gospel, and the sweeter pop sounds that complete the package. You have your pick of Bakersfield, Nashville, Memphis, Austin and the whole state of Kentucky. Vince Gill KNOWS what he's doing. A great singer, guitar player, songwriter and producer, it quite simply doesn't get much better than this. Hopefully, Nashville will take notice and be seriously awaken by this release: Guests include Phil Everly, Emmylou Harris, Al Anderson, Amy Grant, Del McCoury, Beka Bramlett, John Anderson, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Emmons, Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack, and many more. This is quite literally the best "country" release of 2007.

Cat Stevens' 1st Among His Greatest
A lot of fans of the '70s Cat Stevens don't really know about his first album and boy are they missing something. True, Cat's style was a bit more pop prior to the '70s, but What Pop! It's great stuff. Well written songs, tremendous production, and great performances. The stereo imaging on this remastered CD sounds very, very impressive. You could listen to it just for that until you realize how great everything else here is. Yeah, some of it is dated, but that shouldn't detract from your enjoyment. I recommend this CD to everyone who ever loved British pop from the '60s or ever enjoyed Cat Stevens. Super stuff.
