Two 20th century violin giants - almost unknown
This recording contains all known examples of the genius-boy Josef Hassid: just 9 short "encore pieces". The early recordings of Ginette Niveu are astonishing. Both were mature (despite their tragic deaths in the prime of youth) and distinctive artists: soulful and poetic.

Two outstanding lives. Rich with information, excellent presentation.
At over 600 pages, this portrait of two extraordinary people living through a time of great upheaval is fascinating, even to those whose grasp on this period in history in riddled with gaps. It is historical, human, and presents a framework of raveling/unraveling lives throughout an unprecedented time in the 20th century.
One doesn't lose respect for either of these monumental figures, shown here with plain compassion and with no exaggerated point of view.
I thought I would probably pass it along, and I doubt I will ever read it again, but who knows? For the time being, it's a "keeper"!

Another profound and thoroughly enjoyable look at "man's best friend"
Jeffrey Masson takes an unconventional approach to understanding our relationships to other species, our attraction to them, and their own responses to our world. I grew up without a dog or any real communications with dogs. But I was hooked here from the start, as I was with his other wonderful books. Not cutesy, anthropomorphic, or far-fetched.
