Andrew Murray always shares significant insights
Andrew Murray always comes through with spiritually profound, but simply stated, commentary on the Christian life. And he practiced what he preached. His walk with God is evident. The Christian life is one characterized by waiting on God, and Andrew Murray makes it something to be desired.

Six books in one. A complete Bible course by Edinburgh's J. Sidlow Baxter.
Warren Wiersbe describes J. Sidlow Baxter as "one of the greatest Bible teachers I have ever heard. His approach to the Scriptures has had a lasting effect upon my own life and ministry. I have recommended Explore the Book in pastors' conferences and in the seminary classroom. It is an excellent survey of the Scriptures, and every serious teacher and preacher of the Word ought to work his way through these studies."
Since these 147 studies were first delivered by J. Sidlow Baxter as his Thursday evening Bible lectures in Charlotte Chapel, Edinburgh, without thought of being published, they are somewhat conversational in tone. Baxter notes that though he quotes from such as A. T. Pierson, Sir Robert Anderson, G. Campbell Morgan, and the Pulpit Commentary, this course (intended to be read along with the books of the Bible covered by the lessons) is a product of his own independent study.
This is not a verse by verse commentary, but an awesome "grounding in the Scriptures" as a whole, "seeking to get hold of the controlling thought and the outstanding meaning and message of each book," and then seeing its significance in relation to the other books of Scripture. "We shall let each book tell us its secret and open its heart to us."
Baxter honors the Bible as the inspired Word of God. "Therefore, we are seeking to learn, under the illumination of the Holy Spirit, the mind and the truth and the will of God."
"Our Lord Jesus Himself has taught us that HE is the focal theme of all the Scriptures; and everywhere, there, we want to see beyond the written word, to Him who is the living Word. And we want to see Him in such a way as causes us to love and trust Him the more. . . . True Bible study will encompass that object, for the inspired pages of Holy writ live and thrill and glow with the presence of God!"
As a serious Bible student, I have owned a copy of this book (first published in 1960) for several decades. I purchased this one on eBay because it was reasonably priced with the thought of giving it to someone who will value it as the treasure that it is.
Volume 1 - Introduction and Genesis to Joshua
Volume 2 - Judges to Esther
Volume 3 - The Poetical Group: Job to the Song of Solomon; The books of the Prophets; Prophecy and the Prophets; Isaiah to Lamentations
Volume 4 - Ezekiel to Malachi
Volume 5 - Inter-Testament period; New Testament and Old; New Testament as a Whole; Four Gospels Collectively; Matthew to John
Volume 6 - Acts of the Apostles; Church Epistles Collectively; Romans to Revelation
Each volume retains its own page-numbering system with its individual Table of Contents, showing the number of lessons devoted to each book of the Bible. For instance, each book of the Pentateuch is covered by four lessons each. Four lessons are devoted to the Inter-Testament Period. The book of Revelation is covered by one lesson. Each volume concludes with a page of questions for either testing or further study.

This novel by a favorite author impacted my life profoundly
I have purchased several copies of Blue Ruin in its original printing and reprints. This one was special because of Grace Livingston Hill's personal comments in it to someone she had visited, and that someone pasted in a photograph of Grace, probably taken on that visit.
But besides that, the spiritual content of this book focused on how to live the crucified life: what it means to be crucified with Christ, yet to live in newness of life. Because of a footnote in chapter 19, I was introduced to a London preacher (whose teachings and writings are available free of charge on the internet), as it referred to a famous sermon by this London preacher called "The Three-fold Law of the Cross." I was immersing myself in that sermon, which I located on the internet, at the time that my husband was suddenly experienced a massive brain bleed from which he did not recover. While he was in a coma for two weeks, this sermon (as it related to the circumstances of my life at the time) gave me such a wonderful perspective on what was happening and why, that I was filled with great joy. The more recent edition published by Barbour is unfortunately riddled with errors and changes from the original which are sadly unacceptable. It also omits this footnote giving credit to T. Austin-Sparks for the sermon which he gave Grace Livingston Hill permission to use. And besides that, the word-for-word exerpts of the sermon have been changed, in some cases inadvertently leaving out phrases, and in other cases, deliberately editing (changing) the original copy.
I would recommend snatching up the older hardback editions of this book while they are still available. They are still available for decent prices, though some are over-priced. I paid more for this copy because its an autographed copy with a photo of her not seen before.
