Arizona Place Names - As Good As It Gets!
With our ever increasingly mobile society where few people stay in the same place generation after generation the ability to sit on grandpas knee and hear about events at a place are sadly lacking. The population of Arizona is ten times larger today then it was 50 years ago so 90% of the population doesn't have a grandpa to tell the story.
Will Barnes and Byrd Howell Granger are like my grand parents telling the definitive story of how our Arizona Geography came to be so named. From "Phoenix" to "Tucson" TO "Flagstaff" this is a book that is a must read for all Arizonan's and in my opinion should be required reading before a person could register to vote etc.

Plant identification guide to the plants of Arizona
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This is the most current book for the identification of plants in Arizona. It takes a little different approach to the identification of plants than I have seen before - that being identifying plants by their flower color,, rather than by family or ecosystem etc. It has wonderful pictures which will in fact work to identify most plants in Arizona. It does present interesting descriptions of the various families and then pretty detailed descriptions of the various species of plants. I enjoyed and appreciated the descriptions of where the photos were taken and the time of year. The description of the ecosystems pretty much follows the somewhat dated Merriam System but serves for the general understanding of altitudinal differentiation. I bought the book on ebay because I could get it cheaper than at a bookstore.
If you are interested in learning about the plants of Arizona this is an excellent resource.

Ruins Along the River by Carle Hodge (1986)
Great pictorial book about the Verde Valley National Monuments - Montezuma Castle, Tuzigoot, and Montezuma Well. Striking photographs and interesting text. One of the best contemporary interpretations of these resources and really great photos. A must for any library on Arizona.
