Dead Set Overview

Picking one Live Song performance from each year over a 30 year span must have been a daunting task. But this set does just that. And I cannot argue with the choices. Splendid collection. Well curated.

When talk meant Talk

Such a joy to go back when a "talk" show really was just that. Large blocks of time devoted to gaining insights into Interesting people by a qualified host. Not just a 7 minute "visit" to plug a bad movie or a TV show. I've been picking up a lot of the Cavett shows recently and they're really worth watching. Even guests who weren't that interesting to me prior became much more interesting. Some fascinating insights. I remember these from their original airings. It's fabulous to see them again. (And Cavett really did have a cheesy Set with ugly shag carpeting- )

Groucho on the Couch???? Bad Idea.

Psychoanalyzing folks from afar is a dangerous game. Trying to do this to a Brilliant Comic Genius, such as Groucho Marx, is pointless. The man had a hair-trigger wit and was an incredible talent in many areas. The author probably enjoyed playing armchair psychologist but to what end? After reading this book of pseudo analysis are we any closer to knowing the real man? I think not. There are some interesting things here but ultimately it's just a lot of semi-informed guesswork and outright hogwash.
