Works, but may not fit well with additional adaptors

Does the required job, which is to connect a 50-pin IDE optical drive to a regular 40-pin IDE cable. Pros: 1) Has mounting screws to secure the adaptor in place, so it does not just hang on the drive's JAE slot. 2) Has analog audio connectors as well (not much use for them nowadays as most OS's implement digital audio extraction; only for old games). Cons: 1) The power connector is mounted directly under the IDE slot, making things difficult if you need to use additional adaptors/bridges, e.g. IDE to SATA or to USB (you may be forced to bend the power pins 90 degrees downwards). 2) No IDE Master/Slave jumper (you are stuck with the Cable Select setting). NB: IDE drives are rare nowadays (having been all but displaced by later standards), 50-pin slots are rarer still (having been used only for optical IDE drives), and mordern mainboards usually don't come with IDE controllers anymore. Make sure to get the right combination of adaptors/bridges for your drive and mainboard.

Good value, measures up and does the job, but uses OEM firmware

The model received was MTFDDAK256TDL; it was not only in OEM packaging, but with OEM firmware as well (Lenovo, M1LN000 Sep 2018). The latter was a bit disappointing because this is outdated (the latest retail firmware is M5MU030 Aug 2019), the drive does not accept firmware update to the latest retail version, and Lenovo hasn't published firmware updates for this drive on their support site either (even though they did stock some of these drives with M1LN001 and M1LN002 firmware). Nonetheless, the drive does measure up to retail version performance (e.g. on harddrivebenchmark.net), and no problems have yet been observed in operation. It should be noted that the advertised sequential write speed of 500 MB/s (specs on Micron web site) holds only for burst writes; for continuous/sustained writes it is only 230-250 MB/s.
