Lightweight and perfect for what it was designed for.
Because you can pay more for a small release plate, But with this you also get protection, and the camera is not sitting on the floor, when used without the tripod when resting it on a wall or fence. It is also strong well made with a good finish that matches the camera, would recomend it to any one. It is also designed so that you can replace the battery without removing it.
