Hughes Spews
I didn't last one week. Started clunking so bad, I thought I threw a rod on a brand new motor. Regardless, I tear down my brand new transmission, and clean all of the metal shavings out of everything - valve body too. For that reason alone, Hughes aren't worth the cost a rebuilt converter. You're better off w/ a cheap B&M converter.

WARNING! BAD Converters
BEWARE of ACC! I ordered a $700 converter from ACC for a 727 Chrysler. The bolt pattern so far off center wouldn't bolt up to the flex plate. ACC claimed they would cut the bad mounting dogs off and re-weld them in the right place using my good flex plate to match it up correctly if I mailed them both back to them for repair. So, I sent my $150 flex plate (a flex plate that bolted to the last 3 converters without issue) and the brand new ACC converter back to be fixed and to also that the converter was built wrong. ACC charged me another $150 and drilled new mounting holes off-center in the already perfect flex plate to match their off-center bolt holes on their bad converter and destroyed my personal flex plate. They said the brand new shallow head ARP converter bolts that I've been using for over 20 years where wrong as well and charged me another $30 for cheap thick head grade 5 bolts out of the bin at a local home depot. As u know, those grade 5 bolts are not only too weak but the crank wont even rotate to install them because the heads are too thick, the first one would hit the block and stop the crank from turning. They charged me for shipping 3 times to destroy my good flex plate and rip me off for a converter that I had to throw in the trash. And after all of that, it still wouldn't bolt up to the converter when I test fit it on the bench. Over $1000 charge by ACC including the new flex plate I had to buy again. And that guy at ACC said - " I cut my teeth on Chrysler converters" I wouldn't trust him to air up a tire.

Two bad converters in row!
Poor quality. I bought one for a mild 440 build and it was cooked from normal driving in less than a week. That was almost 5 years ago. Recently, I had read a pos review on a Hughes converter, so I tried again for a very mellow 360 small block this time. It didn't even last an hour on the much tamer 360. A 100% brand new transmission and new lines. Two junk converters from Hughes in a row? It was definitely the converters that are bad. Clearly, the quality is just not there. I've been building transmissions and engines for nearly 40 years and Hughes has got their last dollar out of me. I will never trust them again! Even B&M makes superior converters when compared to Hughes.
