Intellectual/historical look at ideas shaping the 60's
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Being myself just behind the 60's generation I have always wanted an explanation for what happened during those tumultuous years that affect us to this day.
Horowitz lived and shaped those years as much as anyone and is therefore in a first hand position to analyze them. I particularly enjoyed this book because it can serve as a handbook reference for not only the history of those days—names, places, events—but also the intellectual and philosophical underpinnings and foundation of it all. The book is also interesting to read because it is a telling of Horowitz's personal intellectual, moral, and spiritual journey. The one thing that might put off readers is his brutal honestly and he examines himself and all the forces shaping those times.
I imagine most of the 60's generation is completely unaware of the intellectual history of the ideas that they hold dear. If you are of that generation, even if you disagree with Horowitz's current stand, you would benefit from reading this book and after doing so find whether or not you end with a similar apotheosis.
