If you really want to keep that Whirlpool Cabrio working, you need this (unfortunately).
This and the seal above it are the weakest link in a poorly design and cheaply made washing machine. The failure mode is that the seal starts to leak a bit, and water displaces the lubrication n the main bearing immediately below. In its finite wisdom, Whirlpool decided to make the bearing irreplaceable, which is why you now need this entire unit ($$$). (Been there ... done that once. The replacement gear case is making sounds like it is on the verge of failure, so here we go again, unless I scrap the washer at this point.)

good replacement for a commonly-failing part
So far, this seems to be a more reliable, better-made version of the OEM part. It works well with my Sony Blu-ray player, and the pilot light is a very handy feature.

no more "getting hit in the head lessons"
Works well, installs easily, keeps the hatch from falling and hurting someone or breaking something. I have replaced only one so far, keeping the other for the other side, when the hatch starts to sag again.
