Warplane: A Great History of Military Aviation
I bought this DVD for family member who was a career pilot and is a diehard aviation fanatic. This is a sterling historical account of the airplane- from its infancy with the Wright Brothers in 1903- to the numerous discoveries and inventions that tranformed it into the formidable fighting machines we've seen in the past and present wars.
The content is presented with such integrity and accuracy thanks to the able historians who manage to boil down the facts to be accessible to everyone, no matter what your backgound is. Major players are introduced from each significant time (e.g WWII aces) as well as classic plane models (e.g. Sopwith Camel; Albatross; Mosquito).. Actual news footage is used when it was available- and it is prevalent throughout the documentary. I especially appreciate that it succeeds in not becoming too technical and detailed; it stays fast-paced. I learned many fascinating facts about the history of the warplane and highly recommend this DVD- especially to anyone who is interested in aviation history. Warplane is a fast and fun ride!
