For Fans of the GeForce FX 5200
If you're a fan of older computer games played on older computer systems, there's a good chance you're a fan of the GeForce FX 5200. It's one of those iconic pieces of hardware that has left its mark in PC and PC gaming history.
The FX 5200 was available for the PCI or the AGP bus in different configurations; this one was for PCI with connectors for 2 VGA displays and came with 256MB of memory. One VGA port goes to my monitor; someday, the 2nd port will go to my wall-mounted TV.
Although it has a connector for a 2-pin fan, this one was simply equipped with a large (nice looking), aluminum heatsink and no fan. While this makes the card perform silently, I prefer to cool the GPU with an aftermarket fan (see pictures). I hated to remove that beautiful aluminum heatsink but I can't have it both ways :)
This card performs exactly as expected. For older games like the Quake and Doom series played on a Windows 98 rig, the GeForce FX 5200 is an excellent choice with an equally excellent and well-deserved reputation.
