Ball bearing w/ multiple seal options
The 6203 bearing is a good universal bearing used in all kinds of equipment. It has been my experience that it's most likely failure begins with a loss of lubricant or lubricant failure. The key to lube retainment are seals. NTN offers a variety of seals which are part of the suffix of the part number. It's best to down load the pages for the 6203 from NTN"s web site and pick the best seal/lube configuration for your application and buy that unique part number.
If you're stuck and need a temporary fix and the old bearing is still together, drill a hole in the side of the seal with a drill bit the diameter of the red plastic WD-40 spray can noozle tube. Poke the end of that tube in the back end of a 1/4 - 20 zerk grease fitting (may have to 'screw' in), plug grease fitting it into your grease gun, and stick the other end of the plastic tube into the hole (tight fit) of the seal. Pump in grease 'till you see it oooz out around the seal, clean side of seal with solvent, apply a drop of permatex to plug the hole and you're good to go for a while until you get a new bearing.
