This changes everything
I recently bought a new bass, and loved almost everything about it, but there was one thing that kept me from really enjoying it. The strings were creating too bright of a sound, and they made noise when I did slides - and I like to do a lot of slides. In fairness, the Elixir strings that came with the bass were advertised to have a bright sound, and a lot of reviewers liked them because of that. However, I'm an old-school kind of guy and like a rounder, more full tone. So I decided to look for alternatives.
After researching some forums for suggestions for strings for my bass, I saw a few suggestions for tape-wound strings. I had always been curious about them, and decided to give them a try.
Wow - what a difference!
The tone was nice and round, and gave me the sound I was looking for. Best of all, I could do long slides with no string noise at all. I'm completely sold on these, and don't expect that I'll ever go back to round-wounds.
