It's a reliable, accurate way to check the stove's settings, which in my case are waay off.

They're cheap.
They're cheap. They're small for the area they have to cover, so they won't last, and are bare bones instead of comfortable. It's not easy to find good ones anymore.

the Best, most affordable option
I tried saddles of all materials and sizes; these were the only ones sounding as full, warm and balanced as the original brass design and also affording accurate intonation. I also tried the sliced up barrels claiming accurate intonation and was roundly disappointed. There are other companies making interesting designs which have been highly touted, but they're MUCH more expensive and I was not impressed enough to consider them. (Callaham, Mastery, Barden). I'm a tone hound. I love these.
