Wayne Hancock-Best Of
Decided to look into Wayne "The Train" Hancock based soley on the urging of the great Hank Williams III, and was not disappointed in the least. A great mix of 50's-60's era real country w/ that of Bob Wills and those of the country swing era. Don't mistake that description into believing that his stuff is simply regurgitated retro, there definitely is a modern aspect to his writing. He nods w/ respect to those that came before him and then goes ahead w/ his own unmistakeable style. I purchased Best Of figuring if I would only get one Hancock record, a best of compilation would be the way to go. I know now that I could have (and probably will) purchased any "Train" record and not have been disappointed. This cat should be on country radio w/ hit after hit. It's great to be real, but even better to be good and real. What I wanna know is how real country got hi-jacked and shoved aside, when w/out question there is a great market for it. Buy this or any other Wayne Hancock record if you consider yourself a country/western fan in even the most incidental manner. If Hank III weren't around, "The Train" would be king.

Cigars, Oysters & Booze-Bazooka
I sorta duped myself into buying this cd thinking that it was a Joe Biaza and/or Jack Brewer effort, even tho' I read a review that called this record a jazz record. Joe and Jack (former Sacharine Trust) do make appearances on a single track, this is in effect as I read a jazz record, beginning w/ an Art Pepper cover (red car), and further meandering along in a decent jazz model. Live sets culled from three different so. cal. cities, it is what it is- a nice jazz record. Well worth the price I paid (under $4 postpaid) but I don't know that I'd pay much more. My jazz listening days are largley behind me.

Jack Brewer Band-Harsh World
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Seeing as I was 10+ years late in boarding the train filled w/ those recognizing the importance and greatness of Jacks prior band Sacharine Trust, it would stand to reason that I would be at least that late in similarly recongnizing the almost equal greatness of The Jack Brewer Band. This '91 New Alliance recording has even more than I expected, which was a lot. Dunno what if anything ever happened between Jack and Sacharine's phenomonal gutarist Joe Biaza, but the man on the git box on this cd is up to the challenge of some big shoe filling. I was surprised and happy to find Ed (Stewball) Huerta (of various Lazy Cowgirls incarnations) more 'n ably pounding skins. Mr. Brewers vocals seem more gruff and "grown-up" than they were in the S. Trust days, but no less capable. They sound differs, but his cadence was similar. It is my recollection that the Brew man was hailed as one o' if not the best lyricists(along w/ The Flesheater's Chris D.) of the day. Jack Brewer still has it in that department. Man I'm glad I picked this one up. It has been on my steady playlist since th moment it arrived in my mailbox, and looks like it will remain theere for quite some time.
