A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1968 Performance
This is a DVD made from a 1968 film shot using the cast of characters from the Royal Shakespeare Academy. It features Judi Dench, a very young Diana Rigg, and an even younger Helen Mirren. For what it's worth, the guys include David Warner, Ian Richardson, Ian Holm, and Michael Jayston. Costumes are 1968 vintage UK style. Think short skirts and tall boots for the girls and button-up jackets with lace-collar shirts for the guys. The forest characters are done up in rather unimaginative makeup. Color looks watered down, barely there. On one level, this represents the real thing-- it is, afterall, the Royal Shakespeare Academy.
However, for real entertainment, go for the 1999 version featuring Calista Flockhart, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kevin Kline and others. This one also features Mendelssohn's "Midsummer Night's Dream" and other classical music to good advantage.

Continuo Playing on the Lute, Archlute and Theorbo
If you're interested in this book, you probably already know it is t h e authoritative volume on playing continuo with a lute, archlute or theorbo. You'll find virtually everything you need to know about the subject right here.
Music examples appropriate for the different instruments abound as do the author's comments. I had the good fortune to sit in on a class he presented at a lute seminar a few years ago and reading through some of the comments in this book, his voice comes through quite clearly.
It has been advertised here as the 1987, hardcover, illustrated version. Well, all the information and illustrations are there. However, this is a computer-generated, print-on-demand, softcover version. Mine was printed the same day I ordered it. It's printed on 8 1/4 x 11 paper, which, I believe, makes it somewhat smaller than the original. What this means to you is many of the examples presented are smaller than the originals to the point you probably won't be able to put the book on your music stand and play, let alone practice, the tablature or figured bass examples from what you see. Bring a magnifying glass!
If the foregoing could be a show stopper for you, don't buy this version. Save your money and make sure you get the hardcover version. If you want to use it primarily as reference and don't mind the plain, red-brown soft cover, go for this one.

OK, But Not As Powerful As the Professional Model
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This one works just fine. The rub (no pun intended) is that it isn't as powerful as the Professional model. Otherwise, it's quite nice, easy to hold and comes with a good assortment of attachments.
