Everything Good About Detective Series
What an excellent series of programmes these are! A Touch of Cloth is, all at the same time, drama, comedy and slapstick with a touch of pathos. John Hannah plays the lead role, Cloth; a first class detective with baggage. He is ably assisted by Surrane Jones as his long suffering sidekick, and a strong supporting cast who make the three episodes compulsive viewing.
Each episode is a whodunnit, with the baddie in plain view throughout the program.
Good viewing, laugh aloud funny, with cringeworthy dialogue to match. Great stuff!

Interesting and Compelling
I found this novel very much to my taste, with enough detail in it to transport me to the era.
The novel takes place in the early 1900’s, and focuses on a young man called Adam and his journey from the slums of Islington to a mining village in the north of England and then to the battlefields of WW1.
There is the right amount of pathos written into the book, the characters are well presented and believable and the description of the individual settings serve to bring the story to life. There is also the love interest that is interwoven into the whole story, in a kind of ‘will they, won’t they’ scenario, and as the tale unfolds the reader is drawn to the no man’s land that is Adams life.
All in all it is a good read, although in a slightly slow burning way.
Recommended.
