The title lies!!!
I was unaware that Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a sequel to his masterpiece, The Phantom of the Opera until a touring company of the musical play came to Atlanta. I was suspicious that because of the lack of fanfare for this play, it was a dud.
It is ten years after the end of the Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom has fled France and has wound up in, of all places, Coney Island. His love Christine Daaé has come to New York for a performance in order to pay off her husband's gambling debt. As you would expect, the Phantom makes an attempt to woo her because her husband Raoul is not the Prince Charming we all would have hoped for.
The show is entertaining, but it is a far inferior work when compared to the original Phantom. The musical score seems forced and is does not soar as Phantom does. Still, if you are a fan of the original, it is something worthy for you to see.
