These wipers are a solid purchase at a great price

While the first impression of these wipers is a bit confusing – each wiper comes with a handful of potential mounts (a huge waste of redundant plastic you'd think, including the plastic inner tray also – no doubt an efficiency measure), a few moment later you've identified your wiper arm on the instruction sheet, installed the correct mount and fitted it. It's that easy – and the Bosch quality shines through. Those big, solid blades look like they'll chase the rain for a century. The Bosch mount isn't as attractive as the original Mini one, of course, but it's not hideous either. So all good. Now, off to bin the huge amount of redundant packaging...

Great new Sci-fi

You know how it is with Sci-fi... it’s like the bears and the porridge, we all know what we enjoy. For instance, I prefer tech to fantasy. So I’d been itching to find a new supply of what I like with little success. Then I delved into Altered Carbon on Netflix. It wasn’t perfect, but I did enjoy it enough to be intrigued when spotting that it was based on an original novel. And I was intrigued enough to buy. It was a revelation - the fully-fleshed-out world of Takeshi Kovacs is dizzying in its hard boiled inventiveness. Morgan really digs into his future tech, then disturbs you with how it might be perverted and abused. All of this is held together with a story worthy of Chandler (noir, dames, hoods) mixed with Lee Childs (a stoic, worn but wry, Reacher-like, lead), set in a coarse Bladerunneresque landscape, but much, much more degraded (lots of sex, ultra violence and bad language make it an 18 I’d say). I loved and highly recommend it. When I found that there were two more in the series I eagerly bought them. Would they keep up the experience? Yes and no, actually. The second book, Broken Angels, takes an entirely new angle (again, not dissimilar to the Reacher books) and follows a Secret Treasure route. But again the journey is totally engrossing. The exploration of identity in an era of ‘sleeves’ that challenge identity with virtual trickery, biotech and mortality; and the grim futility of the war business are explored and seeded through a romp to secure a stunning breakthrough, with treachery everywhere. Another win. So now I’m a few chapters into Woken Furies, the third and final (so far) Kovacs novel. This one has a Hunt Or Be Hunted theme and looks like it will continue the pleasure, with a nice twist for Kovacs to navigate. I’ll stop there, but I hope that my thoughts so far help to recommend Morgan’s work. Have fun.

New favourite Sci-fi author.
