Uranium Glass - 2 Specimens & 1 UV Light - Geiger Counter Check Source (000023)

Good radiation source

I bought these uranium glass specimens to test my newly assembled Geiger counter. I have to say that they work fantastically well. My counter is using an STS-5 Geiger tube. At background radiation, I am getting an average of 25 counts per minute. With these samples combined, I get around 160 counts per minute! This is almost 1 uSv/h compared to around 0.15 uSv/h of background! I would say that the radiation is more than detectable against background, and it really helped me a great deal in my project. Highly recommended for anyone making their own Geiger counters!

Highly Recommended!

I recently bought this set and integrated it with my multipurpose sensor system. The counter works really well with an STS-5 geiger tube I bought separately from another seller. I am using it with the ESP8266 microcontroller. To get the interrupt to work with ESP, use the C-INT configuration (capacitor) and use the following code in the setup of the pin: pinMode(PIN_GEIGER, INPUT_PULLUP); attachInterrupt(digitalPinToInterrupt(PIN_GEIGER), geigerClick, CHANGE); Overall, fantastic kit and really easy to build and solder. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to start exploring the world of radioactivity.

Quality Tube

I recently bought this tube to use it along with a geiger counter kit I bought from another seller. The tube works really well and there were absolutely no problems with it. The packaging was also really good and there was no chance of anything getting damaged in transport. While the tube is being advertised as new, I am not completely sure it is. It looked used to me with oxidized contacts, but luckily, there is no contamination or anything like that. While the contacts did seem a bit oxidized, I didn't have to clean them. If you are using this tube in an amateur project and want to convert the counts per minute (CPM) to micro Sieverts per hour (uSv/h), multiply the CPM with the constant of 0.0057. This value fits SBM-20 tubes and they are the closest to STS-5. This value seems to be correct as the background radiation I am measuring fits with world background radiation level. Overall, I would suggest getting this tube if you are making a geiger counter of your own!
