Old Cowboy Saddles and Spurs, 6th Edition-ExLibrary
    12. Nov 2016
Should be on every saddlery and holster collector's bookshelf
ALL the holster makers who were also saddlers, are in this book. And of course some who are little-known, like Tibiletti. Although the dating for each maker is quite incomplete compared with what's known about some from other sources -- that is, a single year might be noted for a company that operated for decades -- a small note at the outset of the text warns its readers of this. Rather than taking this reference book as a "who's who" with all the supporting info you might want, better to treat it as a starting point that at least validates, perhaps, a mark on a holster or saddle. Anecdotal evidence is that it's quite a reliable reference work
The histories that are included, that I can verify from other sources -- such as Myres or Wroe -- tell us that this author really knows his stuff. For each historian this work is going to be a starting point only, when following a particular maker or particular line of inquiry about a style's history. But it's all spot-on correct and the pictures are humbling for a craftsman (although I do wonder that so many aged, creaking leather saddles are pictured with pristine, never-been soiled sheepskin linings on their skirts!).
The Peacemakers by R. L. Wilson (1992, Hardcover)

Really beautiful, but has to be taken with a grain of salt given Wilson's personal history.
Wilson is of course, a discredited collector and historian for reasons that a Google search will explain. Nevertheless this book is complete and fascinating, as long as one doesn't take every single bit of information in it as being absolutely true and complete. As always, take the information in this book to be added to other information you collect in this area, and when it all fits together, treat as 'likely'. Red Nichols
