It’s £40 and makes things louder.

Nicely built, well packaged and delivered, yes, it does work, albeit with a walloping bass boost and compression leading to loss of transients and top end - so not exactly detailed or transparent. Preamps can cost £hundreds or £thousands, with this unit you pays your £40 and you gets what you paid for.
