Feature-rich and punching way above it's weight - perfect for enthusiasts
I bought the Powershot G16 as a back-up camera to use in place of my Canon 7D when out and about.
The G16 is ideal for all sorts of situations and is great to take along most places due to it's compact size and weight. It has a fast, bright zoom lens which opens all the way up to f1.8 at the widest end and as far as f2.8 zoomed all the way out. This makes it perfect for low light or indoor shots. AF is rapid and accurate.
For an enthusiast like myself, the manual controls are intuitive and I found it easy to find my way around. Some great features are available via the creative mode. There is a full complement of auto modes, but I always feel like cheating by using them!
Picture quality is much better than expected and ISO starts at 80 which, coupled with the DIGIC 6 processor, produces sharp images. Higher ISO shots are still more than useable at a little way beyond 1000.
I chose this over similar compacts at the same price as the Canon includes more in-camera features such as the star-trail mode. Having owned a couple of Canons so far, I could also rely on the quality. I'm delighted with my purchase!
