A Superb Scientific Thriller.
I saw this movie originally when I was in high school back in 1971 (?). It is a very engaging scientific thriller. Although you could call it “science fiction,” it straddles a very fine line to possible fact. Though that maybe stretching it a tiny bit. Anyway, the alien discovered in a fallen satellite is microscopic and deadly. It wipes out practically an entire small town in the Southwest. A team of top scientists must find the organism before it kills others. And THEY must go through a series of decontaminations in a top secret underground installation. What will keep you glued to your seat is the discovery of this microscopic alien. And no, it doesn’t speak English or have a horn growing out of its forehead. Don’t accept remakes or substitutes. This first one is by far the best.

Smoking Is Hazardous But Funny
“Cold Turkey” is a riotous farce of a town which is offered 25 million dollars if it can stop smoking for one month. And this offer is sponsored by a tobacco company no less. I guess they wanted the PR and in some crazy way prove that cigarettes are not addictive. The town is turned upside down when smokers have to quit “cold turkey,” and sublimate their smoking habits with some wild and funny substitutes.
The town even has checkpoints on roads to insure no cigarettes are coming into town. Those scenes are hysterical too.

Americana with a Pinch of Country
I heard a snippet of one of the songs in a bookstore recently. I asked an employee what was playing and they didn’t know. But one employee held her cellphone close to the speaker in the ceiling and it identified the CD. Amazing. Anyway, the entire album is a mix of Americana, Country, and New Age. The latter is buried in the background, but a 14 minute end suite is totally New Age if you like that genre. An announcer sometimes speaks between songs, but this doesn’t seem to be a live album. Aside from these minor oddities, the actual songs are rich in vocal stylings, instrumentation, and lyrics. If you love Americana with a pinch of Country then “Lord Huron” is for you.
