Equal "rights" for witches? To become wizards? Read it and see.
Classic Pratchett. Part of his "Witches" grouping of books, all of them good. Tackles, as only Pratchett can, the issue of "equal rights."

Written for adolescents, but informative for adults
An interesting exploration of Holland and the Resistance during the Nazi occupation. Good details and historical information about Holland circa World War II.

Tana French is a genius.
Tana French is one of the most compelling authors I've ever read. A previous book had a friend of mine afraid to try finishing it before she went to sleep, and I'm not talking cheap suspense and gore here. This is good, old fashioned, suspense, and a worry for the characters born out of wonderful character development. I thought I might not like this book because it followed a character I wasn't fond of in the second book in the series, but boy! was I wrong. I found this as compelling as book two, and that's saying something! This is what Tana French does. She picks up a character the primary character in a book dislikes, and makes him or her the centerpiece of the next novel. You wouldn't think it would work, but it really does. Along the way, you get a wonderful feel for parts of modern day Ireland, and for the social ins and outs that differ from America. Imagine a character who can't leave home because someone has to take care of the father he hates and the mother he despises, and he can't get one of his brothers or sisters to do it! Not in America.
