Clearest narrative of a strategic clash of firepower and determination.
Many of the books about the British-German battles in North Africa reader has difficulty trying to follow the course of a battle; some of which were like naval whirlpools in their moves and counter-moves. The authors show respect for the antagonists and the reader. They present technical and tactical aspects and their affects on the battle. At the same time they show the importance of personalities and individual ,s behaviour at critical periods of the battle.One little known and neglected, the actions of an infantry anti-tank unit at a position called "The Snipe"
Difficult to come up with complaints about the book.
This and Moorhead,s book, "African Trilogy",because he was there, the 2 most informative narratives on Alamein.

A nostalgic assembley of the gear used by GI ,s 2 years before Vietnam.
In a way captures the mood of the US Army shortly before Vietnam expanded from an advisory to a full-scale war. About 2/3 of the items shown would have been seen or used by the average soldier. The book an up-dating of the 1952 edition which showed WW II and Korean War era equipment. The reader, especially if a veteran of both the peacetime era and the Vietnam era will be reminded of the confident innocence and post-65, the mixture of caution and callousness one must develop if one is to survive. The photos selected by the author show the technological qualities of most of the gear. In years to come both vivid memories and strong emotions would be attached to those photos.
