Human Communication -Tubbs: Great for anyone!
I've only read 2 chapters, but they are very explanatory. (I wonder if the professor is even necessary for this). The concepts are explained thoroughly, and examples are given for most concepts and definitions.
The only thumbs-down is for the updates. This version of the book was written in the early 90's, when walkmans were still popular, and MP3 players were only dreams. So, some of the examples and statistics given are a little outdated, but this book gives the gist of what you are supposed to get out of it.
For anyone, student or not, who wants to learn more about the communication between humans.
