A review of basic Soviet airborne operations
This is a very good mini history of the Soviet Airborne Troops. I recommend it for a general history in order to get the feel for the subject. As aformer paratrooper myself, I was interested in the operations of our once enemy. The author once again proves that non-airborne commanders really know what they are doing when it comes to airmobile operations.

The Tragedy of Libby & Andersonville Prison Camps
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich As a student of history I am always looking for interesting readings on this subject. A few years back, I was able to visit both prison camps. This was after doing research on both of them, particully Andersonville. My visit was prior to the up-building by the government, of the site. I was truly appaled at that time, by what I saw. The limited space reserved for the prisoners & the dimness of the graves. To see the statue of the last Confederate commander, erected at Andersonville, made me see red. So finding this small limited history of the camps, lit up my desire for the book. First off, this is only a very limited look at the two major Confederate camps. It is dificult to determine at what level the author is directing his writing. A good case can be made that he is indends it for those with little or no knowladge of the prison system of the Confederate States. In this goal I believe he has succeeded. If his intention was geared to knowledgeable reader, then he does not shine as brightly as with the latter. I feel a mention of the reason that Sherman, during his march through Georgia, failed to liberate the camp should have been mentioned. The author's covering of Libby, is likewise more geared to the limiteded knowledge tourist as apposed to the more advanced informed individual. Still, all in all, it does provide a basic knowledge to any reader. That being said, I would recomend this book to the two catagories which I have mentioned. The former for the knowledge which the new reader will obtain & the latter for a limited reference book.
