Magnet Light Bounce Reflector Diffuser Fr Nikon Canon Yongnuo Flash

Excellent flash bouncer/reflector hampered by weak magnets
I bought this Selens magnetically attached flash bouncer/reflector to supplement my selection of magnetically attached flash modifiers, as my budget could not stretch to the similar MagMod product. This reflector may be seen as a cheap knock-off of MagMod but does, in fact, function really well as a reflector, apart from the relatively weak magnets, that is. More on this later. If you do not know MagMod or the corresponding Selens products, they comprise an elastic silicone grip that slides onto the flash head and a number of attachments that attach to the grip magnetically. The grip has two magnets embedded and all the attachments similarly have magnets that hold them in place on top of the grip. The attachments range from a gel holder to colour the light, a honeycomb grid to focus the light, a snoot to create very directional light, and a spherical diffuser (like half a ball) with a built-in ridge for coloured gels. This diffuser is made from semi-translucent silicone and is used to soften the light from the flash and make it more omnidirectional. Lastly there is this product, the bouncer/reflector, to create a more indirect light effect, softer than direct flash but more directional than the spherical diffuser. MagMod has a few additional modifiers in their product range. The bouncer/reflector is made from silicone and feels sturdy and well made. It has four magnets, which means it can be set up to bounce the light forward, backward or sideways. It creates a softer light than direct flash and can be used on camera to soften the shadows, but is, in my opinion, better suited to fill lighting and to illuminate backgrounds. The size and weight of this reflector and the strength of the magnets of this system makes the reflector prone to fall off the flash, like when hit by a gust of wind or when the flash is being shaken, which makes it less ideal on busy photo shoots when rushing from place to place. I have heard from other photographers that MagMod's magnets are stronger and that this reflector is better held in place with their grip. This reflector is very useful in many tricky lighting situations and the modularity of Selens magnetically attached flash modifiers makes it quick and easy to modify the flash light to match the situation at hand, but the weak magnets makes it prone to fall off the flash when the going gets tough. If you are on a budget, this will provide the same flexibility and light-forming benefits as MagMod's bouncer/reflector but at a substantially lower price.
Red Sekonic Flash Light Meter L-308S Flashmate inc Carry Pouch + Lanyard

Top quality, handy and versatile flash/light meter
The meter itself is a delight to use and you do not really have to refer to the manual. It is best used as an incident light meter (where you take measurements in front of the subject with the dome turned towards the camera) although it can measure reflected light as well as you can slide the dome away from the sensor. Select the ISO setting from your camera, select the mode (single flash, multiple flash, light level), take a measurement and you are done. If you are using it as a light meter, you can easily play around with the aperture value/exposure time to find the setting that best fits your purpose: Shallow depth of field vs. everything in focus, action-stopping short exposure vs. effect-shaping long exposure. Many possibilities all in your hand. I am going to use it mostly for studio-type work with multiple flash-units, a setup that cannot easily be handled by the camera's meter. I give the meter my highest recommendations.
5in1 Magnetic Flash Modifier Sphere Diffuser Filter Gel For Flash Speedlite &Bag

Flexible and Sturdy Magnetic Flash Modifier Kit
I have been looking at MagMod for a long time and found it too expensive for my needs, but then I became aware of this alternative at a fraction of the MagMod cost, just south of £30 as opposed to about £120 for a similar MagMod kit. The kit I bought comprises a magnetic grip for the flash head, a grid to limit the flash spread, a gel holder attachment, 7 coloured gels and a translucent dome. I have not been able to confirm it but I suspect this system is actually compatible with MagMod. I was obviously a bit sceptical about the quality of a kit four times cheaper than MagMod, but there was nothing to worry about ... This kit feels very sturdy and well made. The kit comes with a magnetic grip that is wiggled onto the flash head like a tight rubber band. Despite just being slipped over the flash head this way, the holder is securely attached and does not fall off accidentally. The magic of this system (and MagMod, of course) is provided by the powerful magnets embedded into the grip and into all the other components. These magnets allow the attachments to be quickly attached and detached but are sufficiently powerful to hold the attachments securely in place, even when stacked on top of each other. The grid attachment narrows the beam of the flash thus providing better control of the lighting with a more directional beam. The dome, on the other hand, spreads the light and is essential to achieve soft lighting with a flash, especially if you are using wide angle lenses. Lastly there is the gel holder, which has a ridge all the way round the inside into which any of the coloured gels can be placed to change the colour of the light. Changing the colour of light can be used for effect, e.g. by lighting a background with bright colour, or to adapt the colour temperature of the flash to match the ambient light. The attachments can be combined in different ways by stacking each on top of the other, e.g. to achieve coloured light through the grid or the dome. There are at least two other attachments available to this system, a flash bounce attachment for a more directional but soft light and a snoot for very directional light like highlighting smaller areas. The snoot can be adjusted to provide different spreads by selectively collapsing it. The kit works extremely well on almost any flash and I can highly recommend it.
