Hugo runner-up for his 1st full length novel by this excellent & well spoken award winning nevelist P. Djeli Clark. He did an excellent job in selling his works at his panels at the recent World Science Fiction Convention in Chicago - Chicon 8 at which he was virtually present & I caught 1 of his recorded panels at which he accurately dscribed his works . Earlier ones would have been considered short novels possibly 50 years ago but are considered novellas or short novels thses days & his deservedly were nominated for several earlier awrds for which they sometomes won & sometimes were also runners-up. this one was runner-up to the also excellent Arkady Martine's 2nd novel. A nice length length at 390 pages - just right for my time although I did read Connie Willis' Balckout & All Clear a couple years back which is really one 1100 page novel & I had foollishly thought I could take a couple weeks break between books which wasn't the case as there was no clean breaking point. 390 is more to my expected liking even thouh the Willis book was highly enjoyable & both segments were deservedly award winning, As are P. Djelli Clark's books - just a lot shorter so far.
