They don't make them like this anymore.
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Fans familiar with the more current dub of the original (pre Z) Dragonball would be surprised to learn that there was a previous attempt to dub the show in the mid 90's.
Produced by BLT and Funimation, and voiced by the Ocean Group, the first 13 episodes of Dragonball were run as a syndication package, and as such tended to air at funny time slots depending on the broadcast channel.
To say the episodes are edited would be an understatement, but as a syndicated show, the restrictions were actually far looser than the DBZ dub it came before (think the 90s Iron Man cartoon compared to the Spider-man cartoon from the same time).
This collection serves as something of a time capsule, from before anime could be shown on TV mostly faithfully, and a reminder of how far it's come.
There's a lot to enjoy here, the voice acting is good, the writing pretty sharp and the American-made musical score is catchy (the opening in particular is 90s awesomeness in the guitar-laden vein of Power Rangers).
This set covers the "Emperor Pilaf" Arc and, while ending hundreds of episodes early, stops at a natural place in the story rather than cutting off in the middle of it.
Final verdict: get this at a good price and take a journey back to the 90's. Even if just to have fun comparing the episodes to their later dubs.
