NASCAR - Driving in Squares is Overrated
The first time I played this game, I got black flagged within 10 seconds, so if you want to have fun, I'd suggest turning the black flag off. Seriously, this game would be boring if you couldn't. Also, I went ahead and turned damage off. It makes the game a lot more fun as well. Now, onto the actual game. The thing you'll probably spend most of your time on is the career. You start of the the Craftsman Truck Series, but as you gain Rep from winning races and completing team and sponsor contracts, you can pay in the Nationwide Series or Sprint cup. From completing sponsor contracts, you get points that you can add to the stats of your car to make it better. Soon, your car will get so good, you need something to keep you entertained. I find starting 20 car pileups to be enough. My pit chief keeps saying, "Easy, we don't want bumper damage," and I yell back, "That's why damage is turned off!" Maybe yelling at a video game is not the healthiest thing to do, but it sure is fun. Another thing to do is the challenges. I don't really get the point of them. They'e always something like "Complete a lap on this track without letting your speed drop below 150." I got bored and went back to the carnage of career. Another thing you can do is own tracks. I haven't figured that out. Whatever. Overall, NASCAR 09 is a good NASCAR game and a good racing game in general. The controls are simple, the action is good and yelling at other cars feels fantastic. If you're a fan of NASCAR, I'd check it out.

Lost Odyssey
It is truely amazing that this game comes from the same developer that made Blue Dragon. I'm not saying Blue Dragon was a bad game or anything, it's just if you look at the games, they look so different. Blue Dragon has more anime-like graphics while Lost Odyssey is much more realistic. In fact, that's the first thing you see in this game. It starts with a cutscene on a battlefield where we see our hero dominating the other army. This is where you truely get to see just how great the graphics are. Obviously, we also get introduced to the story, which is original, highly detailed and quite epic. A neat addition is the "Thousand Year Dreams" which gives more background to some of the characters. It allows you to get to know your characters from before this story begins. You can choose to skip them, but I find them quite interesting to read. The one thing is that there are a few typos in them, but not many. Just things like "You can hear people getting dying," instead of "people getting killed" or "people dying." My only complaint is that on the first disc, there are a two EXTREMELY difficult boss battles. It really is not balanced with the rest of the game. I'm only on the third disc, but have not come across another boss as difficult as the ones on the first disc. It was very frustrating and made me almost put the game away. Once you get past them, though, the game is tons of fun. It took me 25 hours to do the first two disc and I'm up to 30 hours, so expect a long and epic single player adventure that will consume your life for about a week. This is an amazing RPG that all fans of RPGs should check out.

Nox - Westwood's Shot at the RPG Genre
Westwood Studios, the masterminds who brought you Command & Conquer, gave RPGs a shot and man, did it work. Nox is a great RPG. Not the best I've played, but probably gets into my top 10 RPGs of all time. The story is original and funny. Cheesy, but that's how Westwood works. A lot of their stories are silly, but that's what makes them great. Time travel, getting sucked into televisions, it's all great. The gameplay is great. There's a large variety of weapons and attacks. You work your way through the levels, fighting enemies and dodging obstacles and have several boss fights. It's not the longest RPG, but will keep you entertained for 10 - 20 hours. If you're like me, you'll gladly run through it a second time. One reviewer didn't like it for the graphics and it's true, the graphics aren't stunning, but for the year 2000, they're good. If you're the kind of gamer that really doesn't care about graphics and will gladly play older games, this is one to check out if you can get your hands on it.
