An excellent compact little number that puts the joy back into photography
Finding the right lens can be as hard as finding the right lens.
Whilst my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens is excellent, I wanted something a bit wider and looked at the range of 35mm lenses available. The choice is poor with the only decent lens being the L series lens which is just shy of a grand. This turned me on to looking at non-Canon lenses, including Zeiss and Voigtlander.
My friend had a Voigtlander for a Nikon. I was very impressed by how compact the lens was and how smooth and solid it was. The whole thing reminded me of when I was at college using a K1000 with manual 50mm.
Buying this lens has really put back some of the joy of photography. I feel more involved and in touch with picture making.
Technically, the picture quality is excellent and I notice that the colours are warm and vibrant. The close-up attachment is also excellent.
The only downside is that there is no lens correction preset in Lightroom. This is a tiny thing, but as a result I personally tend to use this lens for more personal work and use my canon 50mm if I think I need to correct the images.
Being a manual lens means that you it harder to track a moving object, if you wanted to, but otherwise it really isn't an issue. I find the slightly slower process makes me work better and I feel more in touch with the picture-making process.
I thoroughly recommend this lens. It is excellent, I cannot find fault with it.
