Paul Schrader's Best Movie
Paul Schrader's best movie. Willem Dafoe, Susan Sarandon, Dana Delaney. Literal garbage on the street symbolizes the moral garbage high above in pristine luxury apartments stocked with casual drug abusers. Willem Defoe caters to them, but he can't sleep, and has a keen eye for the sleeze he lives off. Susan Sarandon is a supplier with casual morals whose loyalty, good sense and unexpected courage save the day for her friend and employee Defoe.

Wounded soldier stumbles into a viper's nest of delectable females
Sophia Coppola is a great director. A wounded Union soldier (Colin Farrell) stumbles into a girl's boarding school in the Confederate south, a fleshy viper's pit of delectable females. Nicole Kidman is the prim, high-strung headmistress. After years of war-time deprivation, she and her students are all randy as horny toads. Amorous warfare ensues. The result is sexy and fatal.
