Rather plain photos
For a country with such amazing color and timeless traditions, many of the photos were not interesting or representative, they could belong to any country. I was expecting more!

Super book from a bygone time!
Simply superb, from a time when Lonely Planet was the Bible of real, intelligent travelers, full of fascinating information on the culture and with a vivid, well written text that brought the spirit of the country alive! The decline of Lonely Planet since then is beyond belief! Today their books are little more than practical lists about hotels, restaurants and tourist spots. Such a shame! But then again, only the brand name remained from the old, original Lonely Planet.

Nice but had higher expectations
Well written and some beautiful photos, however much emphasis on the industrial and modern aspects of the country, which is rather bland and colorless. I would have appreciated more photos focusing on the traditional and timeless image of such a fascinating and diverse land, where its archaic character was still alive and dominant. A country where old Africa was shining in all its creative cultural splendor. That's what made it special and unique in the first place! The book relatively failed to adequately present this.
