I cannot honestly recommend another camera for under $400.
I bought this because despite ##MP claims on current smartphones, the quality of the pictures coming from phones never really met my expectations. Too bad, I was really hoping they could become the all-in-one devices they are touting to be.
This camera is fantastic. Picture quality is impeccable. I shoot in RAW, though I did do a few test shots in JPG which turned out looking great too. Video quality at 720p is fantastic too. Very fluid. The OSD does not have the same framerate as the camera, so looking at a real time preview on the camera will look a little "chuggier" than what is actually being recorded. The panoramic mode was implemented great also.
