Poor photo quality but a reasonably priced introduction to the subject.
A good overall accounting of the ships of World War II if you are primarily interested in data. The pictures are poorly reproduced from the originals, probably third or fourth generation reprints. There is a 1971 reprint that has much better photo reproduction. That being said, for the price this edition still gives you lots of research material all in one volume.

Africa as it really is.
Despite Paul Theroux's tendency at times towards melodrama, this book succeeds admirably in conveying everything that is right and wrong with Africa today. Anyone who has lived in Africa can relate to these stories of the little successes and spectacular failures of countries betrayed first by their colonial masters and then by their own leaders. Theroux captures the excitement, joy, fear, and desperation that continue to make this continent so fascinating. If you are planning a trip to this wonderous continent, you should read this book for stories of the reality that is Africa today.

Exciting and accurate history of the War of 1812.
I have read many histories of the War of 1812, This is the absolute best! Moving seamlessly from land battles to sea battles, the politics and strategy is carefully and easily explained. Few Americans today understand what was at stake in this war. This book will make it clear.
