Top-tier rewrite of old-school D&D

Great distillation of all of the early years of D&D (1970s-mid 80s) into a single, compact/small, portable tome that has excellent organization, and is really clearly written. (Great art, too!). I'm more impressed than I expected to be, and want to start trying out 'simpler' (OSR) D&D as an alternative to 5e.
