A rose garden inside your home
St Eval makes wonderful candles with fragrances for every season & occasion. Vintage Rose has the true aroma of a rose garden; it's soft but not cloying, as some synthetic rose scents can be, & smells the same from when first lit until extinguished. As with all their candles the 'throw' is really good, I burn one tealight on the hall windowsill & its perfume can be smelled throughout the ground floor & up the stairs & that's in a 1930s semi.

A delightful collection
This is the most wonderful collection of books, written & illustrated by the equally wonderful Shirley Hughes, who is sadly no longer with us. These books are entertaining, amusing & educational & will delight both small children & adults. Her pictures are like Breughel paintings, every time you look at them there's always something new to discover & this set is the perfect introduction to her work & all the characters she created.

Sublime
This is the best book I have read this year & I read a lot. I loved that it was written in correspondence style, anyone who has read & enjoyed 84 Charing Cross Road will relish this. I also found the characters compelling & identified with several, I laughed, cried & marvelled at the stoicism shown by the people of this beautiful island. My copy is fairly battered & I have bought this one for my daughter as a gift.
