Gripping from first to last
Wow, what a page-turner of a novel. Speeds along light a freight train so that you get lost in its world of mysterious characters. This is pure storytelling, bring it on! Bowler never fails but this is one of my all time favourites of his.

Spellbinding
One of the best reads and discoveries of my reading life. I found it in a library and knew nothing of Hemon but liked the title (it is ace) and thought I'd chance it. Thereafter I was gripped. Some of the best non-fiction I've had the joy to read, love his clear style and honesty. Hemon conveys so well those moments when life is magical that you just want to leap around, but handles too tragedy so sad you don't know where to look. I live abroad and as a permanent foreigner this book spoke to parts of my life I've never felt expressed elsewhere and for that alone I'm a forever fan of Hemon. Now on my second book of his, this time it's fiction...I doubt he will disappoint.

Remarkable and uplifting
If you like rich imagery and want language to be beautiful then look no further than Alice Oswald. The collection is utterly uplifting and resonates with the reader hours after the book is returned to its resting place. An original voice, full of zest and wonder - I can't stop revisiting the collection and am so glad for the places it takes me to in my head.
