Great update to my 1663 Triumph motorcycle
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Replaced the points on my 1963 Triumph 3TA with this EI kit. Previously I had had issues with my coil running very hot and I was running out of ideas. I had seen a little bit of play in the distributor which I know can cause problems with traditional points, so I thought I'd give this a go. Very easy to fit, just unscrew the points plate complete with the points and drop in the new EI kit. Wiring is slightly different but was straightforward to change. I checked the timing with a strobe light and it was spot on without any adjustment (as it had been before). End result is that the bike runs well and the coil barely gets warm. All good so far. Can't comment on how long it will last but with no moving parts it should hopefully give a long service.

Good value for money
Can’t fault it for the money. Magnet is strong enough to stick to a vertical surface and take reliable measurements (side of an engine block to measure crank shaft end float). The fine adjustment is a little tricky but to be honest not sure of the point of it anyway if you can re-zero your dial gauge. Glad I went for cheap and cheerful for the few times it will be used each year.

Good once you get used to it
Managed to damage the first tyre we tried removing with this tools. The bead breaker has too small a radius (even for a 15” wheel) and puts too much pressure in a small area of the tyre. However, if you put a decent block of wood between the bead breaker and the tyre wall you can get it to work effectively. Also use lots of warm soapy water around the rim and let it soak in a bit before trying to break the bead. Once the bead is broken the rest of the removal is pretty straightforward. Refitting is also straightforward. We fitted tyres to 5 newly painted steel rims without any noticeable scratches (used tyre fitting paste which seems to lube the bar a bit). Wouldn’t want to use it with decent alloys though (I think there is a different bar for this anyway). Would recommend but suggest you practice on a scrap tyre for the first time.
